When Nicola Dixon Photography decides to hold a styled shoot, you don't want to miss it. Why not? Well firstly, the styling is always totally gorgeous, and secondly, as a photographer you get to try new things, without the pressure of it going wrong. Thirdly, Nicola is a fantastic host, and her shoots are very supportive and creative.
So this time down to a cheese farm, Shepherds Purse, near Thirsk. A real working farm, part industrial, part rustic, and mostly not *oh so pretty". What is important here is that actually with flair and imagination you can make any venue the wedding venue of your dreams. Here Nicola and L27 Weddings styled a small, mossy, bucolic byre, into the most romantic setting for an intimate wedding breakfast. It just proved that if you are willing to cut down through the wedding venue conveyor belt type places, you can have the wedding to suit your personality and your budget. This byre ooooozzed pretty. It was drop down romantic. It turned a wedding into.... actually this is really about me and my partner.... a kind of unwedding wedding.
Our couple who modelled for us were are real couple, who were up for some romantic shots. And most importantly were happy to be posed, and placed in smoke bomb vapour (the type you get at paint balling activities.) Nicola's dogs made an appearance, and its a big yes from me about our fur babies at weddings. If you are anything like me, my Smutely Mutely (aka my German Pointer), is as much as part of my family as my children or parents are. I would want him there!
The creatives worked hard to bring together Nicola's vision, and about 10 photographers were lucky enough to be there. So without further ado, here is my eye on the day.
Then came the experimental bit for me. Smoke bombs! Never used them before and to be honest was a bit dubious about what they would offer. But I have to say, they turned me around. They can create an atmospheric mist, or a total colour blast of a back drop. And I think with more practise and brave models, could make some pretty awesome images. If only they weren't so darn hard to set off!
