…Wild Souls and Free Hearts
//Scotland Adventure Session Photography // Scotland Adventure // St Abbs Adventure // Adventure Session Photographer //
Are you wild souls? Do you love the mountains, cold waterfalls, and woodland trails? The cliffs, and the sea call me. And long ranging views. But mostly that sense of freedom that being at one with the landscape and having an adventure, be it a week long trip, or mini adventure for the day.
What is an Adventure Session?
I can image that many couples feel a huge heart swell when they adventure together, and recording those experiences, and the sense of togetherness are often missed. The journey, the hike, the views could become a photographic story for you. Perhaps they are images you wish you could have created on your wedding day, but lacked the time in a venue based wedding schedule for an adventure session.
This is where adventure sessions come into its own. Whether it is an anniversary, a special date you wish to mark, proposal, engagement or just the chance to have some epic photographs together, booking a photographer to capture you both adventuring, living your best life would be pretty special. These are not posed photoshoots. These are authentic, the real you, images.
Kindred, adventurous souls Sam and Charles (who emigrated from Canada to be with Sam) married in February, 2019, after meeting in Japan while they were both teaching there. They hosted a traditional family wedding for everyone to attend in Northumberland at Langley Castle. But I knew they were itching for something more from their photography. Something that was a true reflection of how they lived their lives and how their relationship sparkled. So I suggested a Scotland adventure session, and they did not hesitate one iota. So a clifftop location was picked for a walk, somewhere they had never been and somewhere I know would make memories.
St Abbs Head, Scotland
As much as I do love fine weather.. I had hoped out shoot would be characterised by an April sea fret, and some atmospheric fog horns. But no. Wall to wall sunshine greeted us in the morning. HEY HO. You can’t have everything. I had scouted the route the evening before to check the paths, so when we met in the morning I know exactly where I wanted to take they for their adventure session. I had my side kick Maxwell, my german shorthaired (and Legged) pointer, with me who did a pretty good job of bombing a few shots. We had about a 6 mile hike, passing the cliffs and the gorgeous lighthouse at St Abbs Head.
What to Wear on an Adventure Session?
Walking boots obligatory ! In this shoot Sam wore bright colour blocks, but the movement of the skirt was the key to many of the silhouettes and drama of the images. I do recommend something that will swish, catch the wind and create movement.
Adventure Instead of a Wedding
With big weddings off the cards for a while, for the wild at heart and adventurous maybe an adventure wedding would enable you to actually marry! Elopements often mean you can marry without judgement, and create a wedding day that is authentic and true to you. In Scotland you can marry outdoors, anywhere, lead and legalised by a Celebrant. (Fingers crossed this will soon be possible throughout the UK soon). If this is something you would love to do, get in touch. I can help you plan your amazing Elopement, from finding your celebrant to bringing your fizz and flowers.
